Friday Flash Picks: 06-May-22

There are too many good stories out there, so I’m going to start doing this every Friday. How do you like them apples?

I’m always on the lookout for awesome speculative flash—if you have your own recommendations, drop them in the comments box!

Choose Your Own by C.J. Lavigne — Daily Science Fiction — Fantasy

I used to love pick-your-own adventure books as a teen, so I got very excited when I started reading this story by Lavigne. And then, as I neared the end of the first option I thought—oh no, we’re going there… Perfect execution of a dark theme with comedic storytelling; Lavigne killed it. Do you dare to make your choice?

Pickup Artist by Thomas J. Griffin — Wyldblood — SciFi / Humour

It’s hell out there for singles looking for love. Griffin’s story follows Dan on a night out on the prowl, and may make you reconsider the dating scene altogether…

Machine Learning by Sylvia Heike — Martian Magazine — SciFi

Did you know an author could break you heart in 100 words? Heike shows us how it’s done, with a wonderful speculative view on grief and coping with the loss of your spouse.

Dragon’s Choice by Deborah Drake — Wyngraf — Fantasy / Cosy

A beautiful glimpse into the lives of the tiny dragons flying above our heads. What, you don’t see them? Pfft, then you obviously haven’t been chosen by them!
