Spec-Fic Recommendations: 17 April 2022

It’s been an amazing week for short fiction! In addition to the many magazines seeing new issues releasing at the moment, I’ve been reading a lot of flash fiction which I had to keep note of for this post! With so many options, you’re sure to find something to entertain you for a quick break!

The Perfect Brick of Feta by Sam Weiss — Flash Fiction Online — SciFi — 4-minute read

Do you manage to take pleasure in the small, simple things in life? Sam Weiss explores the future, and how a more cynical person might regard the simpler things in life, in this beautiful piece.

Gold and Memory by Peter Sartucci — Daily Science Fiction — SciFi — 2-minute read

This microfiction captures the idea of how things endure - archaeologists unearth wonders of an era long passed, and yet, we have to puzzle together what we think happened. How might that look in the future?

The Future is Laughing by Ruby Zehnder — Everyday Fiction —SciFi — 5-minute read

Are you worried about future automation? AI? You might be, after reading Ruby’s wonderful story about the trials faced by a patient in the future.

“The Magic is Out!” by Robert Goforth — Wyngraf — Cozy Fantasy — 2-minute read

Since starting to read “Legends and Lattes”, I’m really enjoying finding more cozy fantasy stories online - Wyngraf specialises in just that! This microfiction from Robert Goforth explores power sources in alternate universes…

“Pen Pals” by Alexander Hewitt — Flash Point Science Fiction — Comedy Horror — 2-minute read

I’ve often wondered what it would be like to communicate with a ghost, but not quite like this… Hewitt brings a great deal to the table with such a short piece, and it’s masterfully sharp and witty. Also, the final punchline made me snort, which is always a good sign!
